The Floyd County Commission has approved additional funding to complete remaining work at the Chuck Sennett III Amphitheatre located next to the Rome-Floyd County Library.
Commissioners authorized $14,230 from 2023 Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) infrastructure funds to support the project. The funding request came from the county’s facilities department.
Floyd County Manager Jamie McCord said the money will be used to finish several remaining improvements at the site.
The work includes installing handrails and a sidewalk, along with a small contingency to cover any unexpected needs that may arise as the project wraps up.
McCord said only a few final items remain before the amphitheater is fully ready for use. Some electrical work still needs to be completed in coordination with Georgia Power.
Once those issues are addressed, the county hopes to have the venue ready in time for events planned later this spring. McCord said two events are tentatively scheduled for April, depending on the completion of the remaining work.
The open-air amphitheater is designed to host concerts, festivals, weddings and other community gatherings. The venue includes a 1,040-square-foot stage and a 7,000-square-foot spectator area.
The amphitheater was formally dedicated on Aug. 24, 2025. It was made possible through a gift from Charles “Soc” Sennett and his wife in memory of their son, Chuck Sennett III, a graduate of Darlington School who became known for his aviation photography.
The project was developed through a partnership involving the Sennett family, Floyd County government and the Rome Area Council for the Arts.
