Geoff Cannon is stepping down as head football coach at Coosa High School to accept a position as offensive coordinator at Rockmart High School.

Cannon recently informed players and school officials of his decision bringing an end to his tenure leading the Eagles program. He will join the staff of Rockmart head coach Rich Fendley, one of the most successful coaches in Georgia high school football in recent seasons.

“It was hard to pass up an opportunity to coach under Rich Fendley,” Cannon said. “He has won four straight state championships.”

Cannon took over the Coosa program prior to the 2024 season and guided the Eagles through a rebuilding stretch over the past two years. Under his leadership, Coosa finished 4–7 in 2024 and 3–7 in 2025. The Eagles also went 3–7 during the 2023 season before Cannon’s arrival, giving the program a combined 10–21 record over the past three seasons.

Despite the challenges, Cannon was credited with working to stabilize the program and build a competitive culture at Coosa.

The move to Rockmart places Cannon on the staff of one of the state’s premier programs. Rockmart is 32-5 over the past three seasons.

Cannon will now oversee the Rockmart offense as the Yellow Jackets look to continue their championship run.

Coosa officials are expected to begin the search for the program’s next head coach in the coming weeks.
