Polk County commissioners have approved an ambitious slate of road improvements for the year ahead, signing off on more than 21 miles of paving projects aimed at improving safety, drivability, and long-term infrastructure across the county.
The 2026 Public Works Paving List was formally approved during the Commission’s January 6 meeting, setting the stage for repairs and resurfacing work that will touch a dozen roads in multiple areas of Polk County.
In total, 21.06 miles of roadway are scheduled for upgrades as part of the county’s annual paving program. Public Works officials say the projects are designed to address aging pavement, reduce maintenance costs, and provide smoother travel for residents.
Roads included on the 2026 paving list are:
Airport Loop
Collard Valley Road
Grady Road
Hightower Falls Road
Huntington Road
Knight Road
Lewis Road
Robinson Road
Rolling Hills Road
Sewell Road
Stringer Road
Yarborough Road
While a detailed construction schedule has not yet been released, county leaders said additional information about timelines, traffic impacts, and project phases will be shared with the public as plans move forward.
Motorists who travel these routes can expect to see equipment and work crews begin appearing as the county transitions into the new year. Officials are encouraging drivers to use caution in work zones and allow extra travel time once construction begins.
The paving initiative is part of Polk County’s ongoing effort to maintain and modernize its transportation network, ensuring safer and more reliable roads for residents, school buses, and emergency services alike.
