Two women were arrested after allegedly stealing hundreds of dollars’ worth of merchandise from a Cartersville Target, telling officers they were inspired by a trend they saw on social media. According to a report from the Cartersville Police Department, officers detained 28-year-old Maliyah Deondria Dillard of Cartersville and 31-year-old Wyn Nese Deshawn Middlebrooks of Temple after store personnel reported the pair had taken a variety of items without paying. The merchandise., including personal care products, jewelry, and other goods, totaled more than $700.

Police said Middlebrooks told officers the two had seen videos on TikTok claiming that Target stores were easy places to shoplift, which prompted them to try stealing from the retailer.

During the arrest, officers allegedly discovered 18 Adderall pills in an unlabeled container on Dillard, along with a small amount of suspected methamphetamine wrapped inside a dollar bill and a straw.

Authorities said that after arriving at the jail, additional stolen merchandise was recovered from Middlebrooks, who had reportedly concealed the items on her person.

Both women face felony theft by shoplifting charges. Dillard is also charged with two counts of possession of a Schedule II controlled substance, possession of medication outside its original container, and possession of drug-related objects.
