Several railroad crossings across the area are set to undergo maintenance work in the coming days, according to Norfolk Southern, with closures expected to impact a number of heavily traveled roads.

Officials said crossings along state routes could reopen within 24 hours, while other locations may remain closed for up to 48 hours. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and identify alternate routes to avoid delays.

The scheduled maintenance will take place as follows:

Monday, March 2

  • Turner Bend Road
  • Alabama Highway

Tuesday, March 3

  • Redmond at Gala Shopping Plaza

Wednesday, March 4

  • Old Airport Road
  • Sycamore Street
  • North Elm Street
  • Sheridan Drive

Thursday, March 5

  • Second Avenue off John Davenport
  • Riverside Parkway at the park
  • North Broad Street between the bread store and church

Monday, March 9

  • Darlington Drive

Drivers should expect detours and possible traffic congestion near work zones during the maintenance periods. Railroad officials advise residents to use caution around crews and equipment and to allow extra travel time while the improvements are underway.
