A 61-year-old woman recently accused of robbing a bank in Cartersville allegedly told officers she committed the crime because she feared ending up homeless and wanted to be taken to jail. Records from the Cartersville Police Department and the Bartow County Jail state that officers were dispatched to a Regions Bank branch on Main Street last week. When they arrived, they found a woman—later identified as 61-year-old Karen Louise Green of Cartersville—seated in the lobby.
According to police, Green admitted she had given a teller a note demanding money so she could be arrested and jailed, explaining that she was worried about losing her housing.
Investigators said the teller reported that Green never claimed to have a weapon. When the teller attempted to hand her $2,500, Green declined the amount and instead asked for just one dollar. After taking the single dollar, she reportedly inquired whether anyone had called 911 before sitting down in a chair to wait.
Authorities also contacted a caseworker from Highland Rivers Behavioral Health, who told police that Green had asked to stop by the bank to withdraw money for a new pair of glasses and had not indicated any plan to commit a robbery.
Green was arrested and charged with felony robbery by intimidation. Jail records show she was released Thursday afternoon after posting a $10,000 property bond.
