Blood Assurance centers in Cartersville and Rome are reporting a critically low blood supply, with less than a one-day supply of O-negative blood currently available and just one day’s supply of several other blood types remaining.

Officials say the shortage is reaching urgent levels and could impact the ability of local hospitals to meet patient needs if donations do not increase immediately. O-negative blood is especially vital because it can be given to patients of any blood type in emergency situations.

Blood Assurance is urging eligible donors to schedule an appointment and give as soon as possible to help stabilize the supply and ensure hospitals across the region remain prepared.

As an added incentive, all donors who give through February 28 will receive a $25 eGift Card and will be entered into a drawing for a chance to win a $100 eGift Card.

In addition to its permanent donor centers in Cartersville and Rome, Blood Assurance also hosts mobile blood drives throughout surrounding communities. Appointments can be made online, and walk-ins are welcome, though scheduling ahead is encouraged.
