Officers with the City of Adairsville Police Department responded to a reported home invasion and vehicle theft this week after being dispatched by Bartow County E-911.

According to police, 41-year-old Nathan Caprice Sweats told officers that two men broke into his home, assaulted him while he was watching worship videos on television, and left him unconscious. He also reported that his Dodge Ram pickup truck and several other items had been stolen.

Detectives immediately launched an investigation into the claims. Authorities say evidence gathered during the investigation revealed that Sweats’ account of the home invasion was fabricated.

The reported stolen pickup truck was later located in downtown Woodstock near several bars and restaurants. Investigators determined that Sweats had driven the vehicle to Woodstock himself and had spent the evening at various establishments in the area.

Sweats was arrested and charged with false report of theft or conversion of a motor vehicle, obstruction of law enforcement officers, false statements or writings, and unlawful conduct during 911 calls.
