A Cedartown woman was arrested this week following a reported assault at a residence on Blanche Avenue, according to law enforcement. Jessica Lynn Lewis, 39, of Cedartown, is charged with battery in connection with the incident, which was reported to Polk County 911 shortly before officers arrived.
Authorities said officers were dispatched to the area after receiving a report that an assault had occurred and that the suspect had left the scene in a red Honda Accord. While responding, an officer located a vehicle matching that description traveling north and initiated a traffic stop.
During the stop, officers observed that the driver appeared disheveled, out of breath and sweating, with torn clothing, consistent with involvement in a recent physical altercation. The woman was detained while officers continued their investigation.
According to police, while detained the suspect made unsolicited statements denying that she punched the victim and claiming the other person was not injured.
Officers then responded to the Blanche Avenue address and spoke with the victim and a witness. The victim reported that the suspect entered the apartment and assaulted her, punching her in the face and attempting to drag her before leaving the scene. The victim also reported a similar confrontation had occurred about an hour earlier at the same location.
The witness corroborated the victim’s account, telling officers she saw the suspect enter the residence, attack the victim and then flee.
