Isaiah Spurgeon has been named the Rome Police Department’s Officer of the Year following multiple life-saving incidents.
Assistant Police Chief Rodney Bailey said Spurgeon rescued two children and a wheelchair-bound woman from a house fire on Pennington Avenue in December, entering the burning home twice to bring them to safety. His actions earned him Officer of the Quarter and the department’s Lifesaving Award.
Spurgeon was also previously recognized for aiding a woman who was severely bleeding at a Walmart in September. City Commissioner Harry Brock said Spurgeon applied a tourniquet and stayed with the woman until EMS arrived, actions credited with preventing a fatal outcome.
