Benjamin Odell Hammitt, 49 of Rome, was arrested this week after reports said he failed to provide food and water to his animal.
Reports said that Hammitt’s dog was found in a condition where is suffered from severe muscle atrophy and was severely emaciated with a voracious appetite. The mucous membranes were also found to be dry with obvious skin tenting showing severe dehydration.
The animal scored a 1 out of 9 on the Purina Body Conditioning System.
Hammitt is charged with aggravated cruelty to animals and probation violation.
