A 51-year-old Cedartown man was arrested this week following a reported dispute outside a North Main Street business. Authorities responded to the area in front of the Dollar General after a caller reported a man and woman arguing outside a vehicle. When officers arrived, they spoke with both individuals involved, who said they had been in a romantic relationship for several months.

According to the incident report, the argument began while the couple was driving and escalated into a physical confrontation. The man told officers that the woman struck him while he was driving, prompting him to pull the vehicle over. Officers reported no visible injuries on him.

The woman told a different account, stating that during the argument the man placed his hand around her throat and choked her to the point she could not breathe. She also reported that he took her phone when she attempted to call 911. After the vehicle stopped, she exited and flagged down another motorist for help. Officers observed visible injuries around her neck consistent with her statement and documented them with photographs.

During the investigation, the man denied the allegations and claimed the injuries were self-inflicted.

Following the investigation, Christopher Dennis Moore, 51, of Cedartown, was arrested and charged with aggravated assault by strangulation under the Family Violence Act, as well as obstructing or hindering an emergency call. He was transported to the Polk County Jail without incident.
