Georgia State Patrol troopers are investigating a fatal three-vehicle crash in Adairsville that left one man dead.
Troopers responded to the scene around 12:50 p.m. on Joe Frank Harris Parkway at Woody Road. Investigators say a red Toyota Camry was traveling southbound and passing other vehicles in a no-passing zone.
According to the initial investigation, the Camry swerved back into the southbound lane to avoid an oncoming vehicle and struck the left rear of a southbound commercial motor vehicle. The impact caused the commercial vehicle’s left rear tire to separate and strike a northbound Kia Optima.
After the collision, the Camry rotated clockwise and overturned multiple times before coming to rest off the east side of the roadway.
The driver of the Toyota, 67-year-old Michael Griffin of Adairsville, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Joe Frank Harris Parkway was shut down for approximately two hours as crews worked the crash and investigators collected evidence. The incident remains under investigation by the Georgia State Patrol.
