Chattooga County Sheriff Mark Schrader issued a statement that said on Monday, December 8, 2025 before noon, Deputies and Investigators were dispatched to a residence south of Holland off Highway 100 regarding the discovery of a deceased body inside of a residence.

“Upon our arrival we located a body that was in the latter stages of decomposition. Sheriff’s Investigators secured a search warrant for the residence and property. A GBI crime scene technician and agent were requested and responded to assist in the investigation. Coroner McElhaney also responded to the scene”, said Schrader

Preliminary findings suggests that the individual had been deceased for an extended period of time, possibly exceeding 1 year.

The investigation is still in the early stages and attempts to find and notify next of kin have begun. There were no signs of forced entry and it appears the resident lived alone.

“At this point, we do not feel that there is safety concern for the area residents. More information will be released at a later time. The body will be sent to the GBI medical examiner’s office for examination”. -Sheriff Mark A. Schrader
