A Cedartown man was arrested after police say he chased another vehicle through town on a motorcycle while pointing a firearm at its occupants, ultimately leading to a felony traffic stop and multiple charges.
The incident began when Cedartown E911 received a call reporting that a motorcyclist was attempting to run another vehicle off the road while traveling north on Main Street. The caller told dispatchers that the motorcyclist was following the vehicle and pointing a gun at the occupants.
The driver and passengers went directly to the Cedartown Police Department for safety. They told officers the confrontation began on Brookes Street after the driver made a wrong turn. According to their account, the motorcyclist confronted them, yelled obscenities, and then began chasing their vehicle.
They reported that near Main Street and Philpot Springs Road, the motorcycle pulled into a turning lane beside their vehicle and the two made contact, causing the motorcyclist to fall. They said the man stood up and pointed a firearm at them, prompting them to flee toward the police station.
Responding units later located the motorcycle traveling east on East Avenue. A traffic stop was conducted in the AutoZone parking lot, where the rider — identified as 32-year-old Cody Lee Ferguson of Cedartown — was taken into custody.
Police reported that two handguns, a large knife, and brass knuckles were recovered from Ferguson’s person. The weapons included a Beretta M9 and a Rock Island Armory .38 Special. Ferguson denied pointing a firearm during the incident but was transported to the Polk County Jail without further trouble. His motorcycle was impounded, and the seized weapons were placed into evidence.
Ferguson is charged with eight counts of aggravated assault, two counts of possession of a weapon during the commission of a crime, DUI, reckless driving, possession of a concealed weapon without a permit, and driving without a valid license. Warrants were filed following his arrest.
