Two Cedartown men are facing multiple charges following an alleged burglary at a local building earlier this week. According to the Cedartown Police Department, Dustin Ray Proctor, 39, and Eric Jermaine Jacobs, 47, were taken into custody after officers discovered them inside the Newark building on East Ellawood Avenue.
Authorities said the arrests came after an officer on patrol spotted a vehicle parked on the side of McKibben Street that matched the description of one reportedly connected to recent break-ins at the Newark building. A registration check showed the vehicle belonged to Proctor.
While one officer stayed with the vehicle to await a tow truck, others began checking the Newark property. During their search, officers found a large roll-up door partially open. Upon entering the building, police located two men inside and detained them without incident.
Both suspects were identified as Proctor and Jacobs. When questioned, Jacobs reportedly told officers he had “fallen on hard times” and admitted the pair was “up to no good,” according to the incident report.
The two men were transported to the Polk County Jail. The vehicle was removed from the scene by Lee Brown’s Towing.
Proctor has been charged with first-degree burglary, loitering, possession of tools for the commission of a crime, second-degree criminal damage to property, and criminal trespass.
Jacobs faces charges of first-degree burglary, prowling, criminal trespass, loitering, and possession of tools for the commission of a crime.
