Ronald Mitchell, 49 of Rome, was arrested this week on drug and weapon charges after leading police on a chase on North Avenue.
Police said that when they initiated a traffic stop, Mitchell fled while running a red light and crossing vehicles on double lines at a high rate of speed. After stopping near Wolf Drive, Mitchell fled the scene on foot. Mitchell, who is a convicted felon, was later taken into custody and found in possession of a Taurus 9mm hand gun and marijuana.
Mitchell is charged with possession of marijuana, too fast for conditions, failure to obey traffic control devices, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and attempting to elude police.
