Sunday morning at 4:09 AM the Chattooga County Coroner’s office was notified by Chattooga County 911 of a structure fire in the 1200 Block of Ridgeway Drive with multiple fatalities. Chattooga County Coroner Jeremy McElhaney responded to the scene, where he pronounced 2 individuals dead.
Fire investigators are still in the early stages of their investigation and more information will be released by the Georgia fire Marshall’s Office when it is available. The coroner’s office will transport both deceased individuals to the Medical Examiner’s office in Atlanta for further examination and positive identification.
The Trion Fire Department, Summerville, Fire Department, Hayes Correctional Fire Department, Atrium-Floyd EMS, Chattooga County Sheriff’s Department, and the Georgia State Fire Marshall’s Office were all responded to the scene and we are grateful for their service.
