It’s the last week to cast your ballot early in this year’s local elections.

In the City of Rome, voters will choose three commissioners to represent Ward Two from a field of five candidates: Elaina Beeman, Jamie Doss, Jill Fisher, Vic Hixon, and Randy Quick.

There’s also a race for the Rome City School Board, where nine candidates are competing for seven available seats. Those on the ballot include Toni Blanchard, Brenda Boyd, Pascha Burge, Will Byington, Faith Collins, Marquita Davis, Karl Gyden, Alvin Jackson, and Ron Roach.

Across Floyd County, voters will decide on a proposal to add a one-penny sales tax aimed at reducing property taxes. If the measure passes, the tax would last for five years and the funds would be used only to lower the property tax rate.

Also on the countywide ballot is a referendum to allow liquor by the drink and Sunday alcohol sales in unincorporated areas of the county.

Early voting in Rome runs through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the Floyd County Elections Office on East 12th Street.

Cave Spring Elections

In Cave Spring, voters have several contested city council races this year:

  • Post 3: Kristi Reed vs. Nancy Fricks
  • Post 4: Charles Jackson (incumbent) vs. Greg Webb
  • Post 5: Warren Baker Harbin vs. Tom Lindsey

Early voting in Cave Spring is open Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., at City Hall.

Residents of Cave Spring should note that the municipal election is separate from the Floyd County General Election. Those wishing to vote on the countywide sales tax and liquor referendums must do so either at the Elections Office in Rome during early voting or at their regular precinct on Election Day.
