The Calhoun City Schools Board of Education meeting on October 27 was filled with emotion and appreciation as the district formally dedicated its boardroom in honor of longtime leader and former Chair Eddie Reeves.

In a unanimous vote, the Board approved naming its meeting space the “Eddie Reeves Boardroom,” a lasting tribute to Reeves’ decade of leadership and his enduring impact on the Calhoun community. Plans are underway to install commemorative signage in the Board of Education lobby to celebrate his legacy.

Superintendent Dr. Michele Taylor reflected on Reeves’ influence, noting that his steady guidance helped shape the district’s long-standing reputation for excellence. “While we are honored as a governance team to receive recognition as an Exemplary Board, there will be a huge void without our leader and friend, Eddie Reeves,” Taylor said. “We know Eddie will be looking down and cheering us on as we continue to lead with excellence.”

The evening included a special presentation from State Senator Chuck Payne and Keith King of the Gordon County Board of Commissioners, who delivered a resolution from the Georgia State Senate honoring Reeves for his years of dedicated service to Calhoun City Schools and the greater Calhoun-Gordon County community.

Board members, family, and friends shared heartfelt memories, describing Reeves as a compassionate leader whose dedication to education, athletics, and the arts continues to inspire others. The Eddie Reeves Memorial Scholarship, established in his honor, will annually recognize two Calhoun High School seniors—one excelling in the arts and one in athletics.

The meeting closed on a personal note, as attendees enjoyed a selection of Reeves’ favorite treats—Chick-fil-A nuggets, sweet tea, peanut M&Ms, Little Debbie Christmas Tree Cakes, El Pueblito chips and salsa, and hot cider—followed by a moving musical tribute, “You Beat Us Home,” written by Trace Vaughn and accompanied by a slideshow of Reeves’ years of service.
