A 40 year-old Rome woman, Shannon Marie Hampton, has been arrested after reports said she severely injured Hannah Nabors, a teacher at Armuchee Elementary School, while she was driving under the influence on Monday.

Reports stated that Hampton was found driving while under the influence of drugs before crashing into Nabors car on Highway 27 at Dixie Park Road.

State Troopers said that Hampton was pulling out from Old Timers BBQ, turning left, when she pulled in front of a soutbound Ford 150. The impact of the F150 caused the truck to spin into Nabor’s northbound lane and make contact, also sending her into rotation.

Reports stated that Nabors was rushed to a local hospital, and later to a Chattooga hospital to be treated for her injuries.

The driver of the F150, Hampton, and a passenger in Nabor’s car was not injured.

While investigating the scene, officers found a plastic baggie containing methamphetamine in Hampton’s purse.  A further search resulted in officers also finding a burnt marijuana cigarette in her vehicle.

Hampton is charged with DUI, serious injury by vehicle, possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana, driving on a suspended registration, failure to yield, seat belt violation and probation violation.
