A Cedartown man was arrested this week following a reported domestic altercation involving his juvenile daughter. Steve Rangel, 32, of Cedartown, is facing a battery charge after officers responded to a residence on West Avenue in reference to a disturbance between a father and daughter.
According to the Cedartown Police Department, the juvenile contacted 911 claiming her father had struck her head on the ground and dragged her along the sidewalk. She told dispatchers that she was able to get away and fled to a nearby residence at 627 West Ave, where officers met with her.
The juvenile told police she had snuck out of the house earlier and was caught by her father, who confronted her and her friends. After sending the other teens away, she said he began walking her back home, during which a physical altercation occurred. She alleged that her father grabbed her by the hair, they both fell, and he then struck her head against the ground.
Officers observed visible injuries, including marks on her left knee and a small mark on her neck.
Police then made contact with Rangel at his residence on 637 West Ave. He was found sitting on the front porch and admitted to officers that he had grabbed his daughter by the hair during the altercation, stating it occurred twice.
The juvenile requested medical attention and was transported to the hospital by EMS accompanied by her mother.
