The City of Calhoun set this year’s millage rate this week at 3.5 mills for the city government portion of upcoming property tax bills. Teh amount is unchanged from last year’s rate.

This, combined with the Calhoun City Schools’ rollback 13.735 rate will give city residents a combined millage rate of 17.235.

The vote came after the council’s third and final public hearing on the matter that drew no speakers prior to their regular meeting.

Last week Gordon County’s Board of Commissioners passed an unchanged 9.042 for the county government portion of the combined millage rate.

City property owners, however, will not pay the 15.650 County Board of Education rate in lieu of city school taxes.

Likewise, property owners outside incorporated cities are only billed the county government and county schools portions of the rate.
