A domestic altercation led to the arrest of two Cedartown residents over the weekend. Both Scott Greeninger, 53, and Valerie Christina Betsill, 42, have been charged with battery following a dispute at their residence.
According to a report from the Cedartown Police Department, Officer Barnett responded to a domestic disturbance call and first made contact with Greeninger, who reported that his girlfriend, Betsill, struck him in the head with her cell phone, causing a small laceration. Officers noted visible bleeding from Greeninger’s head. He stated he pushed Betsill away in an attempt to defend himself before she left the apartment and went to a neighboring unit, Apartment B10.
Officer Barnett then made contact with Betsill at the neighbor’s residence. She was found with blood on her clothing, which she confirmed was Greeninger’s. Betsill told officers the altercation began over an argument about clothing. She claimed she had asked Greeninger to leave the apartment due to ongoing conflicts. According to her, Greeninger then grabbed her by the throat, prompting her to strike him with her phone in self-defense. A neighbor confirmed that the couple had been arguing frequently in recent days.
When questioned a second time, Greeninger initially claimed the attack was unprovoked while they were lying in bed. However, after further questioning, he acknowledged the argument stemmed from relationship issues.
Due to the conflicting accounts and physical evidence from both parties, officers placed both Greeninger and Betsill under arrest. They were transported without incident to the Polk County Jail. Both individuals admitted to being in a relationship.
Greeninger was evaluated at the scene but declined medical treatment. Warrants for both suspects were filed with the Cedartown Police Department.
