John David Nash, a 52-year-old man from Summerville, was arrested recently following a traffic stop that led to the discovery of methamphetamine, fentanyl, heroin, and other drugs, according to local authorities. The stop occurred on Penn Bridge Road in Chattooga County, and a female passenger fled the scene on foot. She is now being sought on active arrest warrants.
The incident happened when a Georgia State Patrol trooper stopped Nash’s Ford Ranger during a license checkpoint. The trooper noticed the strong smell of marijuana coming from the vehicle and called in Chattooga County Deputy Nick Robinson and his K-9 unit for assistance.
During the stop, troopers reportedly found a meth pipe on Nash. A woman who was with him stepped out of the truck and ran into nearby woods. Deputy Robinson deployed K-9 Kendy to track her scent, but after 31 minutes, the search was called off due to rain, humidity, and K-9 fatigue.
Back at the vehicle, officers found several drug-related items, including:
- A bag with a digital scale and meth residue
- A box containing about 20 grams of a white crystal substance that tested positive for meth and fentanyl
- Syringes, Narcan kits, glass smoking devices, and a small bag of marijuana
- Aluminum foil with blue and brown powders testing positive for fentanyl and heroin
- Prescription pills (Clonidine and Trazodone) found outside of original containers
Nash is charged with:
- Possession with intent to distribute meth
- Possession of Schedule I and II drugs
- Possession of drug-related objects
- Marijuana possession (under 1 oz)
- Drugs not in their original container
