The Gordon County Board of Education took time during Monday night’s meeting to celebrate a standout student-athlete whose achievements continue to bring pride to the community.

Jazmine Hunter, a senior at Sonoraville High School, was recognized for capturing the Class 2A state championship in the triple jump this past spring. Hunter, a multi-sport athlete and honors student, capped off her school year with a performance that highlighted both her talent and tireless work ethic.

District officials praised Hunter not just for her athletic success, but also for her leadership, discipline, and academic performance. She’s widely seen as a role model for younger students in the Sonoraville community and across Gordon County Schools.

When asked about the possibility of chasing more titles in the future, Hunter’s answer was as composed as her performance on the track: “Pressure is a privilege,” she said — a mindset that reflects her calm confidence and competitive spirit.

School board members and district leaders described Hunter as a “true representative” of the Lady Phoenix athletic program, noting that her achievements set a powerful example of what student-athletes can accomplish with focus and determination.
