Authorities have confirmed the identity of the second person found dead last month in a Summerville home. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation says the victim is 46-year-old Amy Michelle Waits of Summerville.
Chattooga County Coroner Jeremy A. McElhaney announced the news this week, explaining that the GBI Medical Examiner’s Office made the positive identification. The cause of death for Waits—and for the other victim—has not yet been determined, as autopsy results are still pending. McElhaney asked the community to keep the families in their thoughts and prayers.
Last week, investigators identified the first victim as 53-year-old Michael Kevin Bolton, also of Summerville.
The case began on July 22, when two bodies were discovered inside a home on Highway 114 (Lyerly Highway) near Chattooga High School. The remains were in an advanced state of decomposition, making identification difficult.
Police were called after neighbors noticed no activity at the house for several days and saw buzzards circling overhead. When officers entered the home late that Tuesday, they made the grim discovery.
Both bodies were sent to the GBI Crime Lab for examination. While the victims have now been identified, investigators have not released any details about how or why the deaths occurred. The investigation is ongoing.
