A new community music event with a heart for service is coming to Rome this fall. On Sunday, September 28, the Oakdene Place Historic District will host its first-ever PorchFest, a lively afternoon of live performances staged on the porches of historic homes — all to benefit local children in foster care.
Running from 2 to 5 p.m., the event will feature a rotating lineup of musicians performing 20-minute sets, alongside food trucks and family-friendly fun. General admission is $10, with all proceeds supporting The Bloom Closet NWGA, a nonprofit that provides essentials like clothing and school supplies to foster youth across Northwest Georgia.
“PorchFest isn’t just about great music — it’s about lifting up kids in our community who need it most,” said Devon Smyth, program coordinator for The Bloom Closet NWGA.
Acts scheduled to perform include Bourbon & Ginger, The Common Reeds, DIGS, Dragon Wagon, and several more local favorites. The event is hosted by Bloom Our Youth and the Rome Area Heritage Foundation, with presenting support from Gas South.
After the main event, VIP guests and sponsors are invited to the “Back Porch” after-party at River Remedy Brewing Co. on Broad Street, featuring a live set from Russell Cook and the Sweet Teeth, food by John Henry’s Grill, and a special PorchFest-themed seltzer. Tickets to the after-party are $75.
Since opening in 2024, The Bloom Closet NWGA has served over 1,000 children, supplying each with more than $1,200 worth of essentials each year. Based at Restoration Rome, the organization supports families in Floyd and five surrounding counties.
