A convenience store representative arrested on drug-related charges is now scheduled to face the Rome Alcohol Control Commission (ACC) regarding the future of the store’s alcohol license.

During its August 18 meeting, the ACC announced that Khuram Ramzanali, the registered agent for K&A Mart at 1807 Maple Street, is expected to appear at a hearing in September. His arrest earlier this month followed a Rome-Floyd Metro Task Force investigation that led to a search warrant and subsequent charges of cocaine possession and possession of drug-related items. Ramzanali is not the owner of the business but serves as the registered agent—an individual required to live in Floyd County and designated to hold alcohol sales permits when the business owner resides elsewhere, explained City Clerk Joe Smith.

Smith added that the ACC has the authority to recommend either a temporary suspension or full revocation of alcohol permits. Such action would prevent the store from selling alcohol for a specified time or permanently.

ACC Chair Billy Cooper stated that a formal recommendation on Ramzanali’s status and the store’s alcohol license will be forwarded to the Rome City Commission following the upcoming hearing.

In other business, the ACC approved three new beer package sales licenses at the meeting:

  • Chevron Express, 507 Turner McCall Blvd. – licensed to Dhaval Parmar
  • Murphy Oil USA #7094, 2200 Shorter Ave. – licensed to Gregory Smith
  • Sunny Stop N Go, 1107 Turner McCall Blvd. – licensed to Amit Khilan

Two other applications were delayed after applicants failed to appear at the hearing.
