Floyd County Schools (FCS) continues to set the bar for academic excellence in Northwest Georgia, outperforming both the state and nearby districts, including Rome City Schools, on the 2024-2025 Georgia Milestones assessments. With impressive growth and achievement across all tested subjects, FCS remains a clear leader in preparing students for success at every level.

Floyd County Schools achieved higher scores than both the state average and the Northwest Georgia RESA in all 13 tested areas. The district’s performance stands out in several key subjects.

Third-grade literacy: FCS students scored 15 points above the state average

  • Algebra: Concepts and Connections: 72.8% of students reached Proficient or Distinguished levels — a full 26 percentage points above the state
  • Consistent high achievement across elementary, middle, and high school levels

These results reflect the district’s 2024-25 theme, “Learning Without Limits,” and a culture focused on removing barriers and pushing students to exceed expectations.

“This year’s scores are a direct reflection of the hard work and dedication of our students, teachers, and instructional staff,” said FCS Superintendent Dr. Glenn White. “Our continued success is a team effort — and our results speak for themselves.”

Assistant Superintendent John Parker added, “Our teachers and academic coaches are the backbone of this success. Their commitment ensures our students not only meet expectations, they surpass them.”

While Floyd County continues to lead, Rome City Schools reported growth in key areas, particulary in Math and Language Arts.

  • Math: Fourth grade scores rose 11%, and sixth grade improved by 10%
  • ELA: Fourth and sixth grades increased by 8% and 6%, respectively
  • RCS has invested in new literacy initiatives and instructional support, especially for early learners

However, RCS’s scores in science and U.S. History remained flat, signaling areas where improvement is still needed. While gains are commendable, RCS’s results did not surpass state averages in key subject areas the way Floyd County did.

Rome Superintendent Dr. Eric Holland said the district is proud of its momentum and remains focused on long-term growth.

Both districts are aligning with Georgia’s state initiatives to improve literacy, including:

  • Implementation of new K-12 English Language Arts standards
  • Expanded use of universal literacy screeners
  • Increased presence of literacy coaches in high-need schools

These efforts, while still underway, reinforce the strong literacy foundation already present in Floyd County Schools.

With top-tier scores across all areas and a well-defined academic strategy, Floyd County Schools stands out as a top-performing district not just locally, but statewide. The district’s clear vision, exceptional teaching staff, and unwavering focus on student achievement are placing its students ahead — and keeping them there.

As surrounding districts work to catch up, Floyd County Schools continues to lead the way.
