The Floyd County Board of Education held its regular monthly meeting on Monday evening at the district’s board room on Riverside Parkway, addressing a range of action items that included personnel changes, financial approvals, policy updates, and several major budget decisions impacting staff and transportation.

During the meeting, the board approved a significant purchase of 13 new school buses, at a cost not to exceed $1,859,250.

In a show of support for both new and current employees, the board also approved:

  • A $500 sign-on bonus for employees hired after January 1, 2025
  • A $1,000 retention bonus for employees hired prior to that date
  • An increase in the local salary supplement for certified employees from 8.5% to 10%
  • A 1.5% salary increase for all classified employees

These moves follow the board’s recent vote to cut the property tax rate to 16.835 mills—the lowest it has been in 20 years. The cut was made possible by eliminating unfilled jobs and using surplus funds in the 2026 school budget, according to Superintendent Glenn White.
