At the latest meeting of the Cedar Bluff Town Council, several key issues were addressed, including the approval of an Alcohol Beverage License, municipal election preparations, and requests from the Fire Department for new equipment and software. The Council also discussed a billing dispute related to work performed at the Police Department.
Alcohol Beverage License Approved for Weis Lake 360 Restaurant
The Council approved the issuance of an Alcohol Beverage License for the Weis Lake 360 Restaurant, allowing the establishment to serve alcohol as part of its ongoing business operations.
Election Preparations and Poll Worker Appointments
In preparation for the upcoming municipal election, the Council approved a resolution naming the poll workers who will oversee the election process.
Zoning Ordinance Updates
The Zoning Board presented recommendations for potential upgrades and modifications to the Town’s Zoning Ordinance. The representative asked the Council to review the proposed changes and be ready to adopt them during the next meeting.
Fire Department Requests for Equipment and Software
The Cedar Bluff Fire Department presented its monthly fire report and made two significant requests. First, the Department sought approval for the purchase of reporting software from Emergency Reporting, costing $2,595 annually with an initial import fee of $500. Secondly, the Department requested approval to purchase either a remanufactured engine or a new engine for the Brush Truck, which has been out of service since overheating during the 4th of July Fireworks event. The Fire Department received a quote from Stroked Out Diesel in Piedmont: $7,950 for a remanufactured engine or $10,500 for a new engine with installation.
Councilman Bond raised concerns over the lack of specifics in the quote, including the engine type, horsepower, and brand. Bond suggested obtaining additional quotes and agreed to provide a follow-up by the end of the day on Tuesday, August 12. No action was taken on the issue during the meeting, but a Special Called Meeting was scheduled for Wednesday, August 13 at 4:00 PM to resolve the matter.
Volunteer Fire Application Approved
The Council approved the application of Haley Sprayberry to join the Volunteer Fire Department. Sprayberry successfully completed the required drug screening, which returned a clean result.
Billing Dispute with Terrance Dixon
The Council reviewed a bill submitted by Terrance Dixon for dirt work performed at the Police Department. Councilman Bond raised concerns that the work quoted by Dixon had not been fully completed, with the contractor pulling his equipment from the job before finishing the project. Dixon submitted an invoice for $7,500, prompting Bond to request that Dixon appear before the Council to explain the charges. The matter was tabled and will be addressed during the Special Called Meeting on August 13.
Next Regular Meeting
The next regular meeting of the Cedar Bluff Town Council will take place on September 8, 2025, at 5:00 PM.
