The Rome Police Department would like to provide clarification regarding a series of recent, unrelated law enforcement operations occurring within our community.
The first incident began as a routine investigation into a reported stolen vehicle. That investigation ultimately led to the execution of a search warrant for local business records, during which investigators discovered materials suspected to be explosive in nature. The State Fire Marshal’s Office was immediately contacted and, upon their assessment, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) was brought in for further evaluation and support.
As a result of the ongoing investigation by the State Fire Marshal and ATF, several individuals have been arrested. While the Rome Police Department’s portion of the investigation is now complete, the matter concerning the explosive devices remains active under the direction of federal and state agencies.
Separately, on July 17, 2025, the Rome Police Detectives and the Rome-Floyd SWAT team responded to an unrelated incident in the area. White this is an investigation involving explosives, this is in no way connected to the investigation that the State and Federal Agencies are working on. Details regarding this incident and subsequent arrest will be provided as they become available and appropriate for public release.
We appreciate the community’s patience and cooperation as we continue to work alongside our state and federal partners to ensure public safety.
