Mickey Daniel Dowdy, 32, and Tanya Louise Dowdy, 33, both of Rome, were arrested this week after reports said they caused the death of a chihuahua.
Police said that the couple tethered the animal, unattended, in an area where it became tangled in a brush pile and was unable to find shelter, shade and/or water.
The animal was found at a home on Old Calhoun Road.
Both are charged with aggravated cruelty to animals.
