Recognizing the critical role that cursive writing plays in strengthening student confidence, connecting learners to history, and supporting essential cognitive development, the Georgia Department of Education launched the John Hancock Award to honor schools that demonstrate outstanding student achievement in cursive writing.

During the 2024-2025 school year, more than 300 schools across the state submitted applications, which included portfolios highlighting student work. Of these, 93 schools earned the Ribbon of Distinction, while 188 schools received the Proficiency Ribbon.
