The controversial former Superintendent of Polk School District, Katie Thomas, has been announced as the new principal of Main Elementary for Rome City Schools.
Thomas resigned in March after sending an email to employees stating, “It is with a heavy heart that I write to share some personal news. On Tuesday of next week, I will undergo hip replacement surgery and, as a result, will be on medical leave for a minimum of twelve weeks. In considering my recovery time, and with much prayer and consideration, I have decided to resign from my position as Superintendent at the end of this school year.”
Before being named Superintendent, Thomas served as Assistant Superintendent of Innovation and Learning for the Polk County Schools, a job she has held since 2018.
She has also served as the Chief Executive Officer of the Polk County College and Career Academy.
