The Polk County Board of Commissioners convened this week to address a range of community and administrative matters during its regularly scheduled meeting.
Among the recognitions, Bobby Williams of the Public Works Department was named Employee of the Month for June 2025, honored for his continued dedication and service to the county.
Commissioners also recognized Reagan Tidwell with a Letter of Recognition for her heroic actions during a recent 911 call. Her quick thinking and bravery were commended by board members and public safety officials.
Landon Hendrix was presented with a certificate from GEMA/Homeland Security for completing the Georgia Professional Management Program, a key milestone in professional development for emergency and administrative personnel.
In matters of land use and property management, the Board approved the rezoning of a parcel located at Highway 278 and Clarkwood Road from A-1 (agricultural) to C-1 (commercial), signaling potential development in that corridor.
Additionally, a lease agreement for the Department of Driver Services (DDS) building was renewed in coordination with the State Properties Commission, ensuring continued access to licensing services for county residents.
The Board also approved the purchase of property on Akes Station Road for the development of a future fire station. The acquisition is contingent upon final administrative review and is part of the county’s broader efforts to enhance public safety infrastructure.
