Bucky James Smith, 42 of Aragon, was arrested this week after reports said he burglarized Burton’’s Gas Station on East Rome Highway.
Reports said that officers were dispatched to the store on June 14th just after 7 am in reference to a burglary report.
Officers said that when they arrived, they were told by the store owners that the store had closed the previous night at 2100 hours. When they arrived to open, they noticed that the store had been unlocked. When they walked behind the counter to open the registers, they noticed some paperwork on the floor and one piece of ceiling tile completely missing, exposing the attic space.
It was reported that $150.00 in cash, $640 in lottery tickets, two packs of Marlboro Gold cigarettes, valued at $10.03 each, were missing.
It was also discovered that the office camera wire was cut at approximately 0340 hours, just before the offender jumped down from the ceiling attic space, because the offender is seen crawling out of the office to the lottery display on the front counter and pulling out several rows of tickets.
Officers were able to use prior footage to identify the suspect.
Smith is charged with 2nd degree burglary and theft by taking.
