Cartersville Police officers responded to a request for a welfare check at 175 Main Street Market Place, located at the 175 Main Apartments on Thursday
When officers arrived and made contact with the resident, Jonathan Sentell, he pulled out a gun and pointed it at them. He then retreated into his apartment and refused to come out or cooperate with commands.
A tense situation unfolded, leading to a standoff that lasted about six hours. Negotiators worked throughout the afternoon to de-escalate the situation. Eventually, the Cartersville Police SWAT team, with support from the Bartow County Sheriff’s Office, was able to take Sentell into custody without injuries.
Sentell has been charged with aggravated assault on a peace officer.
Cartersville Police Chief Frank McCann thanked the Bartow County Sheriff’s Office, Cartersville Fire Department, and Metro EMS for their teamwork and assistance in ending the incident safely.
