Jamie Nathaniel Smith, 39 of Rockmart, was arrested this week after reports said he drove recklessly down roads placing children and others in danger of their lives.

The police report read:

When I arrived on scene, I spoke with (EDITED) who advised that a small black in color Nissan pickup truck bearing (EDITED) drives up and down the street in a reckless manner all the time. (EDITED) advised that this morning the truck was speeding down the street as he was backing his truck and trailer out of the driveway. when the truck got closer to his vehicle it didn’t slow down and went into his neighbor’s grass after nearly striking his vehicle. (EDITED) advised that he had three different cameras that captured the incident and was able to provide me with the footage to be uploaded into evidence. He stated he wanted a report so that something could be done about his reckless driving so that his kids could play outside safely.

(EDITED) advised the driver of the truck lives at 108 Peachtree Drive. At this time, I relocated to that residence in an attempt to make contact with the driver. When I arrived the truck from the video was parked in the front yard. At this time the driver was identified as Jamie Smith based off the video footage and the returns from the owner of the vehicle.

Upon making contact at the door we spoke with his mother who stated he wasn’t home and that he was at a friend’s house. When asked how he got there she stated he drove her car. After asking where his friend’s house was or what his name was she replied she didn’t know. We advised her to speak with Jamie once he got home and advise him to slow down.

At approximately 2025 hours, I was dispatched to 26 Peachtree Rd. again in reference to a reckless driver in a gray Ford sedan speeding down Peachtree Rd. While enroute to the residence Dispatch advised that the caller stated the vehicle had struck his neighbor, and then drove back towards the dead end. When I arrived on scene I spoke with (EDITED) again and he advised that the driver came speeding down Peachtree Rd. towards the dead end then shortly after, came speeding back down the road. He tried to flag him down to stop him and advise him to slow down due to his family and the neighbors being outside. He stated that when he walked out into the roadway to try and talk to him he quickly turned around at Peachtree Rd. and Crayton St.

He advised that his neighbor (EDITED) was walking over from Crayton St. to yell at the driver for driving reckless and the driver struck him with his vehicle and drove back towards the dead end again. (EDITED) advised that as he was walking over to yell at him due to his family playing outside the driver struck him with the vehicle after it turned around. (EDITED) stated this isn’t the first time that he has come speeding through there. (EDITED) did not want to be checked out by EMS but did have visible red marks on his knees. Pictures were taken and uploaded into evidence.

(EDITED) was also outside when this occurred and advised he witnessed the vehicle strike (EDITED) d from his yard at 22 Peachtree Road. (EDITED) was able to provide video footage of the vehicle speeding past the first time it drove down Peachtree Rd. At this time, I then went back over to 108 Peachtree Road and while I approached the door I observed the gray car from the video and (EDITED) standing in the front doorway on the phone behind the glass door.

I asked him to step outside and as I kept approaching closer to the door he backed up and closed the main front door. While talking to him through the front door he was advised to come outside and talk to us and he stated he didn’t want to because there were so many police cars. Smith finally stepped outside onto the front porch and advised that as he came down Peachtree Road he was harassed by them. He stated that the reached through his window and grabbed him and that one of the guys slammed into the front of his car. While
speaking with him we showed him the video of the vehicle speeding down Peachtree Road and he stated he could not confirm if that was him or not. He then stated that he was driving 25 miles per hour when he drove through.

Smith is charged with aggravated assault and reckless driving.
