A major upgrade is coming to Alto Park as part of Floyd County’s ongoing investment in recreational infrastructure. On Tuesday, county commissioners approved a $1.1 million contract for the installation of synthetic turf fields at the park, with work expected to wrap up by the end of August. The project is being funded through the 2023 Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST).
The contract was awarded to Advanced Sports Group, a company known for its expertise in athletic field construction. Similar upgrades are also underway at Garden Lakes Park, marking a broader effort to modernize local sports facilities.
“This is a huge step forward for our community,” said Erin Elrod, Director of the Community Services Division. “These fields will offer better durability and more playing time for our youth sports programs.”
The Anthony Recreation Center gym floor will get a fresh finish thanks to a $13,370 contract, with $10,000 of that covered by a donation from the Coca-Cola Company.
