The Calhoun Police Department recently announced that K-9 Krackle has been outfitted with a new bullet and stab protective vest, generously donated by the national non-profit organization, Vested Interest in K9s, Inc.
The custom-fitted body armor was embroidered with the heartfelt message, “Honoring those who served and sacrificed.”
To date, the organization has provided more than 5,882 vests to K-9 officers in all 50 states, representing a total value of over $6.9 million. These efforts are made possible through the generous support of private individuals and corporate sponsors.
The program is open to certified K-9s serving in law enforcement or related agencies that are at least 20 months old. Dogs with expired vests are also eligible for the program. It’s estimated that more than 30,000 law enforcement K-9s are currently serving nationwide.
Each vest donated by Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. costs $1,800 and weighs approximately 4 to 5 pounds. The vests come with a five-year warranty and are available through donations—$1,050 covers the sponsorship of one vest. Tax-deductible contributions in any amount are welcomed and appreciated.
