Advocate Health, parent company of Atrium Health Floyd, has named Steve Smoot, FACHE, as North Carolina and Georgia Division President effective June 2. In this role, Smoot will drive strategic priorities, operational excellence, and community engagement across North Carolina and Georgia, in alignment with the enterprise. Steve replaces Ken Haynes who was recently named Executive Vice President and Chief Enterprise Services Officer for Advocate Health.  

Steve has more than 25 years of health care leadership experience, having most recently served as Chief Operating Officer for SSM Health, which operates 23 hospitals and more than 300 physician offices, where he oversaw hospital, medical group and business operations across Illinois, Missouri, Oklahoma and Wisconsin. He has demonstrated a strong track record in strategy development, operational transformation and physician partnerships.  

Prior to joining SSM Health, Steven served as Associate Chief Operating Officer at Intermountain Healthcare where he oversaw 23 hospitals, including a Level 1 Trauma Center and Children’s Hospital.

Steve has a bachelor’s degree in hospital administration from Weber State University and a Master of Business Administration from Bringham Young University.  He is a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) and has been recognized with the ACHE Regents Award twice.  

Steve is married and has five daughters, one granddaughter and four grandsons. In his spare time, he enjoys being active outdoors.
