A runoff is now set between Chip Hood and David Thornton for the vacant seat on the Floyd County Commission.

In Tuesday’s special election, Thornton received the most votes with 1,985 votes while Chip Hood finished second with 1,359 votes.

Shonna Bailey finished third with 1,158 votes, followed by Tonya Eden Shepard with 379 and Corey Townsend with 335 votes.

Just over 8% of Floyd County’s 62,708 registered voters showed up to cast ballots in the election.

The runoff is scheduled for April 15th.
