Rome’s Richard B. Russell Regional Airports’ new 7,010 foot runway is now operational.

Airport Manager John Carroll said that the last part of the runway just before Christmas.

The project was funded by a special tax from 2013 that set aside $5.7 million for the runway.

The first costs were too high, so the work was divided into three smaller projects to save money.

Carroll also mentioned that they are starting to design a new hangar for corporate planes, which will be available for rent when companies bring in their executives. This hangar is funded by a tax plan from 2017.
