Jose Chavez Cruz, 41 of Rome, was arrested this week after reports said he attempted to strangle his wife to death in front of their two children.
Reports stated that Cruz sat on top of the victim with his hands around her throat as their children watched.
Reports then added that the couple’s 9 year-old daughter repeatedly attempted to pull her farther off her mother. When she could not, the couple’s 14 year-old son came to her aid while calling 911 for help.
The victim was left with visible marks on her neck.
Cruz is charged with aggravated assault, battery and 3rd degree cruelty to children.
