Veronica Janese Chapman, 72 of Rockmart, was arrested this week after reports said she caused injury to her husband, who was recovering from a stroke

Officers reports stated:

I responded to 45 Morgan Lane in regards to a heated domestic. Polk County 911 advised that the complainant, later identified as Veronica Chapman, stated that her husband had been following her around the residence shoving and pushing her down.

Upon myself and the other responding officers arriving to the residence, a male, later identified as (EDITED) was observed sitting on the front porch of the residence. I entered onto the property and approached (EDITED), who was sitting in a chair, located on the front porch

I asked (EDITED)  about the incidence and he stated that she, referring to Veronica, had been going on all day. While (EDITED) was speaking, I could hear loud crying coming from inside of the residence. I left (EDITED) with Sgt. Rogers while I entered into the residence to check the welfare of Veronica.

As I entered into the residence, I observed Veronica sitting in a recliner, in the living room of the residence crying. I asked Veronica about the incident and she stated that her husband, referring to (EDITED), has became extremely irritable after his stroke that happened around a year ago.

Veronica stated that she has had enough of had been having difficulties in dealing with (EDITED) throughout the day and was confronted by (EDITED)  asking what was wrong with her.

Veronica stated that (EDITED) had pushed her and slapped her in his face. I asked Veronica why (EDITED)  had hit her and Veronica replied, “probably because I swung at him first”.

I asked Veronica why she swung at(EDITED), and she replied, “I just had enough”. I exited the residence and approached (EDITED), who remained sitting on the front porch. I asked (EDITED) about the incident and he replied that Veronica had been “going on” all day long. (EDITED) stated that she had became frustrated with attempting to plan a vacation for their grandson as well as attempting to control their dog.

(EDITED) stated that she came out from the rear porch and was acting out. (EDITED)  stated that when he asked what was wrong with her, she struck him 2 times in the face. (EDITED)  stated that after being struck the second time, he pushed her away and smacked her in the face.

(EDITED)  demonstrated how he smacked Veronica by moving his wrists back and forth with an open hand. (EDITED)  stated that he did not slap her hard, but he wanted her to stop hitting him.

Due to the combined statements of both (EDITED) and Veronica, Officer Coombe and I entered into the residence and escorted Veronica outside into the driveway. Veronica was secured into handcuffs by Officer Coombe and was secured into the rear passenger seat of her patrol vehicle. Officer Coombe transported Veronica from the residence to the Polk County Jail.

(EDITED)  was provided with victim assistance information regarding the incident.

Chapman is charged with simple battery.
