PFC Dalton Gibbs of the Rome City Police Department was recognized as Officer of the Year by the Rome City Commission on Monday night.

Commissioner Harry Brock, chair of the public safety committee, read a proclamation highlighting Gibbs’ bravery during a life-threatening situation on February 23, 2024. When responding to an armed robbery, Gibbs acted without hesitation, engaging in a dangerous foot pursuit to apprehend the suspect. The proclamation noted that Gibbs neutralized the suspect, likely saving the life of his fellow officer, PFC Weeks.

Gibbs shared his passion for policing, recalling a childhood memory of dressing up as a cop. He thanked God, the department, the city, his family, and his wife for their support throughout his journey.

Since joining the Rome Police Department in 2019, Gibbs has mainly served in the patrol division and occasionally in investigations.
