This week, two commercial zoning requests for proposed businesses in Gordon County were denied.

On Tuesday night, the Board of Commissioners rejected expansion plans from two local business owners on the western side of the county following public hearings. One request involved a zoning change in the 1800 block of Highway 53 Spur for an office and vehicle storage area for JJ & A Construction. Neighbors expressed concerns about potential noise and dust, leading the commissioners to vote against the change from R-3 Suburban Density Residential to C-G General Commercial for the 9.24-acre parcel.

Despite a recommendation for approval from county planning staff, the Planning Commission suggested denial, prompting the commissioners to reject the request due to concerns about industrial zoning implications.

The second denial involved plans for a Rocket gas station and convenience store at the intersection of Hall Memorial and Sugar Valley roads. Commissioners voted against changing the zoning from A-1 Agricultural to C-G General Commercial, citing traffic safety concerns raised by local residents during the public hearing.

In a positive turn, the board approved a zoning change from A-1 Agricultural to R-1 Low-Density Residential for a property at 141 Seabolt Road, Adairsville, allowing a family member to construct a home. No public comments were made during the hearing for this change.

The next board meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, March 4, at the Gordon County Judicial Building Assembly Room, located at 101 S. Piedmont St. The work session will begin at 5 p.m., followed by the meeting at 6 p.m. All regular meetings are open to the public.
