At about 11:15pm, Tuesday, February 11th, deputy sheriffs were dispatched to a private residence on Cash Road near Sonoraville in response to a report of a suspicious person/vehicle.
Upon arrival, deputies located the subject of the call, subsequently identified as one Mark Jeffery, age 40, of Calhoun. Jeffery appeared under the influence of intoxicants and had drugs on his person. He was taken into custody without incident.
A search of his truck revealed a cornucopia of drugs: large amounts of methamphetamine and heroin, oxycodone tablets, ‘ecstasy’, Xanax, psilocybin mushrooms, and marijuana, as well as two illegally held firearms. Jeffery was lodged in the county jail charged with Trafficking in Heroin and Methamphetamine, Possession of Schedule II and IV Narcotics, Possession of Psilocybin Mushrooms, and weapons violations.
Detectives reviewed Jeffery’s background and discovered that while employed as a corrections officer in 2018, he was arrested and convicted of smuggling drugs into a correctional institution. He is awaiting court appearance on the charges here in Gordon County.
